As Birjand was a seat of Governors, there are many buildings reflecting the styles of their periods. In years not to far gone, Birjand was a seat of residence for the rulers and wealthy. Among them the Akbariyeh Building and Garden is beautiful and well planned. It draws the viewer to itself. One unconsciously lauds the architect and planer of this beautiful garden and building. This garden is in 8000 square meters in three floors and relate to the Zand to early Pahlavi periods. The oldest part is the eastern wing in two floors and built during Shokatolmolk period. The decorations consist of Mirror Hall, the Dome, honeycomb plasterwork, etc. At present two museums and sociology, a traditional teahouse and traditional restaurant, workshops for learning of traditional arts, etc are open to the people and visitors interested in historic remains of Birjand.
