Historical background of Mahvelat
We have different meanings in old documents about the meaning of this name;Mah vellayat (moon city) or disappearing of idols are some of them. In the history book of Ali-ebne-Zeyd Beyhagh also mentioned to the city by the name of Mah vellayat (moon city). So according to these documents this area has a clear identity in comparison with other cities. |
Geographical and natural specification
Mahvelat is one of the districts of Khorasan razavi province, the center of this district is Feyzabad which consists of two part, one is Markazi and the other is Shadmehr. It is limited to Torbat-heydareyeh from north, from east to Roshtkhar and Khaf, from south to Gonabad and from west it is limited to Khalilabad district. According to estimations the population of this area is something around 45000 which spread in different parts of this area. The pasture of Mahvelat limited to salt lands from west, in its south west there are mountains like Roodmajan, and in north part there are Azghand Mountains , Kohsorkh Mountains in Kashmar and Fadafan mountains in west. There are permanent rivers like Hessar River , Roodmajan River and Sorkhabad River .

Because of the fair weather of this area we have variety of pomegranates and pistachio gardens in this area. We can also mention to course carpet productions and colorful carpets. |

Traditional arts and Handy crafts of Mahvelat
Relatively like other provinces of Khorasan Razavi, there are some traditional jobs in this area. Silk rugs which represent as rugs in special frames are the best example of handy crafts of this area. From many years ago producing silk was popular among people of Doghabad. |
Some traditional of people
For requesting rain from God, people of this area have special way. They make a scarecrow which they call it Hat Halo, then seven girls by the name of Fatemeh (Fatima) gather together and then they start to sing a special song after that they go to the house of other people and knocking on the door and requesting for some oil or corns, then they start cooking a soup by these foods. After that they burn a head of donkey and they throw it into the river because they believe that this action will broke the spell of rain. |
Zarnookh caravansary It is located 30 kilometers far from Torbat-e-heydareyeh to Feyzabad road in the northern region of Mahvelat. This caravansary is the best example of roofed caravansaries with lots of bricked decorations. In every roof of this building we have different type of brick decoration. There is no place of resting in this caravansary. We only have some stores around it. According to its architectural style we can guess that this building belongs to Safaveyeh period. |
Azghand comprehensive mosque
It is located in Azghand one of Shadmehr districts, 32 kilometer far from northern part of Feyzabad. The only thing, which remained from this mosque, is just a valuable porch which belongs to Teymoreyeh period. The original form of this building was consists of two Shabestan in eastern and western part of it.

Sheykh Abo Saeed Abolkheyr Shrine
55 kilometer far from south east of Torbat-e-heydareyeh, there is a tomb that according to native people believes it is belonged to Abo Saeed Abolkhetr. The name of this village is Mehneh and it consider as birth place of this great man of god. The author of Asrar-al-tohid, Mohammad ebn Monavar mentioned to Meyhane as grave of Abo Saeed which is outside of the borders of Iran but because of lots of respect that native people have to this man, they proudly represent this place as his grave. |
Mountain and Asfareh (Cebireh) country
Asfareh is the name of a village and mountain in the district area of Mahvelat. The mountain of Asfareh has 1188 meter height which is located in Doghabad village. There are lots of qanuts at there which prepare a suitable place for planting. Manjelabad is one of the most magnificent areas of this place. We have lots of pomegranate trees and grape land at there.

Chehel dokhtar castle
The ruins of this historical castle located on mountains beside Ahmadabad village 12 kilometers far from it. There is no watching tower in this castle, but the expert's guess that is belonging to Esmaeleyeh.

Palace of Fathabad
It is located near Fathabad village 22 kilometers far from south west of Feyzabad. The date of construction of this building belonged to 90 years ago. It was the resident place for Prince Fathollah Ghahreman. It is a one floor building with beautiful columns. Decoration of this building is very unique.

 Kheyrabad caravansary Kheyrabad caravansary is one of the Mahvelat districts and it is located 21 kilometer from Feyzabad. According to friezes of building this caravansary belongs to 1055 Hejri. It is four porch caravansaries with reservoir and entrance porch which are destroyed completely. Near this caravansary there is a cemetery reservoir and kheyrabad comprehensive mosque. The style of this building is belonging to Safaveyeh period. |
 Danial pasture Underground rivers of this area prepared a suitable area for agricultural activities. The reason that native people called this pasture as Danial is that they believe that Danial the prophet is the agent of watering the fields and keeping them clean. |
Hemmatabad reservoir
In the village with the same name in the central part of Mahvelat, 14 kilometer far from Feyzabad there is a reservoir by the name of Hemmatabad. According to native people believes this reservoir belong to Pahlavi Period. This reservoir consists of two entrances, 1 meter wide and huge water source under steps.

Old house of etemadie This luxury house is located 6 kilometer far from Mahvelat and it has unique specifications. It constructed during Ghajareyeh. The water stream in this house was fed from Qanut which is come into house from northern part and it went out from the other side. Bricked decorations and rooms have the elements of native architecture of area. |
Zarmehr caravansary
It is located in the village with the same name in districted area of Feyzabad. According to its architectural style it is belong to Ghajareyeh period. It has 600sqms. This building is consists of two parts, one is yard and the other is stores around it. It has no special decoration.

Meyandehi caravansary
Meyandehi village is located 23 kilometers far from southern part of Feyzabad which is according to witnesses it belong to Safaveyeh period. It is a roofed caravansary, suitable for winters with no yard. Its outside entrance is bare and without any special decoration. Its internal space has nine stores.

Ghaleh jogh country village
It is located 50 kilometers far from Feyzabad in the junction of Shadmehr Kashmar road. With its nice weather and different kinds of trees it prepared a magnificent place for visitors.

Aliabad Bridge
The name of this bridge took from the name of a village in 20 kilometers far from Shadmehr junction. According to documents this bridge was established two hundred years ago and it has three northern entrance with a curved and two entrances in its western part.
